Several state governments have passed legislation that allows people to gamble on the Internet. Twenty states permit residents to bet on sporting events on the Internet, and a number of other states allow residents to wager on online poker sites.
Although some states have passed their own legislation, many have not. Some have included games of skill in their gambling laws, while others have banned the activity altogether.
Currently, there are a number of online gaming sites that cater to both poker players and sports bettors. While some of these sites may be legitimate, others are scams. As a result, it is important to know what you can and cannot do when gambling on the Internet.
The first known instance of online gambling involved the Liechtenstein International Lottery. Since then, a large number of countries have allowed their citizens to gamble on the Internet.
